Point and Shoot - Advanced Cameras

These cameras have more capabilities and greater zoom factors than the compact point and shoot cameras. They are also bulkier and look more like the more expensive Digital SLR cameras.

Panasonic FZ100 - Best Advanced Point and Shoot

In this group, the FZ-100 is the most expensive camera and the one with the best combination of features. Price-wise, it is in the same range as the budget DSLRs but it has features that are comparable with much more expensive cameras. The features and the overall package make it stand out:

  • 14.1 megapixel resolution and the 24x zoom. It doesn't have the highest zoom factor in this group but 24 times zoom is still pretty respectable.
  • Full HD video at 60 fps. It is the only camera in this group that provides full HD video.

Comment New model with good still-shot specs. Lacks full HD video.
Very good image stabilzation (4.5 stops).
A generation behind the other cameras in this group. Some reviews mention sub-par picture quality and poor ISO performance.Older model but still has some fairly decent specs. This has a combination of specs that is unique in this group. In addition to what is shown above, it also has a plug for an ext stereo mic. The features compare well with higher priced DSLRs.Light, compact and relatively inexpensive.
Has Panorama picture capability.
Specs are below the best in this category. The low price will make it appealing to those who want decent specs at a low price.
